A dark and gloomy bachelor’s pad was transformed into a sunny and inviting home with clearly delineated areas for dining and leisure, complete with the requisite island vibe. “We angled the den’s furniture and used a round dining table to facilitate the flow between the spaces, and the writing table behind the sofa can be used as a part time work space or a buffet for the dining area,” Mimi explained. A pair of the client’s watercolor paintings inspired the color scheme: warm neutral colors for the walls, window treatment, and furniture with soft yellow, bright orange, and earthy green as accent colors throughout. A custom media cabinet houses A/V equipment and its matching finish provides a visual connection to the adjacent kitchen. For a dramatic focal point, a collection of lily pad plates was arranged on the wall of the breakfast area.
