Parkfield House Family Room 7

WHAT OUR CLIENT WANTED - With a second baby on the way, a Manhattan family needed help in transitioning from their increasingly crowded one-bedroom apartment into a spacious 4,500 square-foot home. Luminosus Designs was tasked with furnishing it all: three bedroom suites, a nursery, four baths, formal dining room, kitchen, and family room. The team delivered—and more: the dramatic dining room was deemed best by the judges from the New York School of Interior Design in the 2015 Westchester Home design competition. The buffet, chairs, and table—with an elegant glass version of the time-tested “Lazy Susan” inset in the center—are all custom designs.

Despite being new construction, the project did have some architectural challenges that needed to be addressed. In the sumptuous master suite, an awkward window placement nearly derailed plans until Mimi came up with an clever solution: leave the window and treatments in place so the exterior of the house looked undisturbed, but create an interior upholstered wall panel to cover it, allowing for the desired placements, including the custom nightstand. Note the sensational silver treatment on the ceiling: icing on the cake.
